I set out transferring pokémon from my Emerald version to the pal park in my Diamond version, as it had the most mons. From there, I checked my Diamond and Pearl remembering that I hadn't really liked Platinum and wouldn't have transferred any pokémon to it. Luckily for me I had the foresight as a child (or at least that's what I'd like to think) to trade most of my favorite pokés to Emerald so they could adventure with me, including the Lati twins. I started by dusting off my old Ruby, Sapphire, and Emerald versions to see which pokémon were where. It was through these combined improvements, and Pokémon Bank, that I decided that this generation I was going to finally catch them all. With the destiny knot I am able to breed desirable pokémon in a third of the time it used to take. The Battle Frontier stepped up battles in the game and in order to take on the Frontier heads, you had to breed pokémon or cheat. Since the Battle Frontier in Emerald, breeding pokémon became one of my main reasons for journeying through each region. In past generations, getting a pokémon that was perfect stat wise was rather difficult and time consuming, and there was an element of luck which I simply don't possess. Of these improvements my personal favorite was the upgraded breeding mechanics. When the first trailer and teaser for the current generation were released, I cried share and an overall easier time finding and catching mons. This new generation has a number of significant improvements like a rethinking of the exp. The move to a polygonal overworld was the least of the changes I was interested in (in fact, I miss the pixel art).

This was such a drastic departure from many of the series mainstays and I loved it. It's healthy to feel so happy, even about a silly game. I know there's something embarrassing about this, but I think everyone should be allowed one fandom that stirs this level of passion. But best of all, there's also a higher chance of obtaining shiny Pokémon through shiny shaking patches of grass.The road to catching all 719 Pokémon was paved with a childhood's worth of free time, a healthy commute and one very promiscuous ditto. Whatever Pokémon you're chaining will also have a higher chance of perfect IVs the longer the chain, so IV trainers will find value in this mechanic. Pokémon encountered as part of a chain also have a 1/128 chance of having a Hidden Ability.
The benefits of chaining are that you'll be able to catch exclusive Pokémon via this manner. Players will need to use their discretion to determine a good risk versus reward balance. The longer the chain, the higher the likelihood of it breaking. The chain will grow until you run away, encounter a different Pokémon, or get knocked out.

Heading to a shaking patch guarantees a Pokémon encounter, which starts a "chain" if you catch or defeat the same Pokémon in shaking patches over and over. When using it in a patch of grass on a compatible route, random patches of grass will begin to shake. To access it more quickly you can register to a quick button press, similarly to how you can access your Bike. You can access the Poké Radar from your in-game bag in the Key Items pocket.
